Hello everyone,
I’m working on completing my book about a Federal Prison Camp, and I want to make sure I don’t leave out anything important.
Please leave a comment and let me know Your Most Important Question About Federal Prison Camp for either inmates or their families.
As a special thank you for your help, the best 5 questions will receive a free copy of the book when published. (I’ll contact the winners by email.)
Can you tell us about sexual encouters at camp? Since you were at a camp, I will assume rape was non-exsistent, but I would think consexual sex would bond to happen overtime between a few individuals. One would think this was frowned upon by inmates at the camp since it could lead to issues for everyone.
Clubfed,
You are right, in my two year stay, rape was non-existence. However I do remember a situation during visitation where a couple was caught in sexual mis-conduct, which resulted in the inmate losing his camp status.
Sexual mis-conduct was not tolerated and yes it was frowned upon by inmates and BOP staff.
What do you know about these services who charge up to $4,500 to advise you and advocate for you in FPC? I have heard from some that they are a “rip off,” and they can’t do anything that you can’t do yourself. Other people say they have former wardens and psychologists who can help you. I am confused!
Rawdeal,
Interesting question. Personally I have not looked into these services and I will not waste my time looking at it. In my opinion once the sentence is handed down it’s just a matter of serving the time or filing for an appeal, which I advise getting a lawyer.
When you are given a judicial recommendation to be close to home is it 500 road miles or 500 air miles?
J
isn’t 500 miles the same on air or ground?
MY LOVED ONE HAS BEEN GIVEN A JOB IN FEDERAL PRISON AS THE INMATE PHOTOGRAPHER DURING VISITATION. IS THAT A PAYING JOB? OR PRIVELEGED JOB OR PUNISHMENT JOB?
500 air is a straight line from point a to point b, road miles are graphically calculated =]
J
Joselynne and clubfed,
I always understood it to be 500 mile radius (air miles, a to b). Basically it’s just the closest facility to an inmates home.
MK,
Yes, it is a privileged job. I remember the man who did the same thing in the prison camp I was in, he also had the job overseeing the hobby craft room and yes it was a paying job.
What times would the phones turn off and on? Did you ever encounter a cell phone?
Amanda,
I think they came one at 6:00 am during wake up call and they went out at 10:30 pm shortly after lights out.
Cell phones were not allowed but Yes, I did encounter them. (Go figure)
Thank you Rickey!
I have heard that once in prison camp you can apply for time in a half-way house where you can go home on weekends and work during the day at an outside job. You really just sleep there at night. Do you know anything about this?
Rawdeal,
Everything you mention is correct and the halfway house time is usually already calculated in the sentence so there is really no need to apply. However if an inmate wants to check on it he or she needs to see their case manager.
Could you tell us about scams that inmates attempt to run on new guys to make a buck? I was told by one guy who went to a camp that a group of inmates were selling blackmarket protien powder to new inmates. What the new inmates didn’t know was the protien powder was 80% flour.
Clubfed,
Yes, there are scams but it just comes down to buyer beware. Inmates are cautious of new arrivals to the camp and would not attempt something until they have observed them for a while.
Anyone have any information on min. security prison in Yankton, SD?
